Protos’ beginnings were humble: it started in 1927 as a co-operative of growers. Within a couple of years of establishment, the Protos red wine was awarded a gold medal at the World Exposition in Barcelona, marking a great start to an exceptional wine. Quality is a principle that is given priority by the winemaking team at Bodegas Protos, where grapes are still hand harvested and individually sorted.
Charred aromas of smoky dark fruit are also shown on the palate. This lusty black fruit characteristic is further enhanced by savoury, secondary flavours of cloves, charred wood and black coffee. It needs a lot of airing time to reveal its true nature. Any barbequed red meats or a classic Côte de boeuf dish will serve as a match made in heaven.
