Le Mesnil, Avize and Oger in the Cote de Blancs
DESCRIPTIONChampagne Delamotte is one of the oldest champagne houses, established in 1760 in the prestigious village of Le Mesnil. The majority of Delamotte’s vineyards are planted with Chardonnay, all of which enjoy the famed Grand Cru status common to the very best Champagnes.
Delamotte is one of the only Champagne villages to enjoy 100% Grand Cru status, and one of only 6 in the Côte des Blancs region of Champagne.
All vineyard work is carried out manually and all grapes are picked and hand sorted by Delamotte’s experienced staff. A combination of traditional and modern vinification techniques are employed to maximise quality. Extended ageing is crucial to the finesse and style of Delamotte’s Chardonnay based champagnes.
The wine spends at least 4 to 5 years on its lees, an extended ageing period allowing the Chardonnay to develop its full expression. This Champagne was disgorged in 2015 with a dosage of seven grams. It is exquisitely fresh on the nose, while the palate is pure, straight and mineral. With fantastic purity and intensity of fruit, as well as mineral expression in the finish complimenting pineapple aromas.
Drinking now but will certainly open up over the next 5-10 years. The perfect aperitif wine.
