QUICK FACTSBekaa Valley, Lebanon
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Carignon
DESCRIPTIONThe Hochar family’s philosophy of respect for the environment means that the 180 hectares of Musar vineyards are managed with minimal human interference and all the wines are made naturally.
Flanked by snow-covered mountains, and nestled at 1000m (3,000 feet) above sea level, the serenely beautiful Bekaa Valley is blessed with 300 days of sunshine a year, fresh mountain breezes and an average temperature of 25°C (encompassing snowy winters and hot summers). Remote and unspoilt, the Musar vineyards were ‘organic’ by default before the term was coined.
2010 was a legendary vintage in Lebanese wine making, an extremely warm an challanging vintage which resulted in incredibly low yielding causing 2010 to be extremely limited in production. The wine is superbly deep with aromas of raisins, cedar, prunes and cinnamon. A savoury and herby wine with delicate spices. An elegant vintage with fresh acidity and a alluring long, dry finish.
“Bright ruby. Heady, rich and gamey aromas. Very hedonistic and accessible on the nose with real density and lifted gaminess. An attractive singed character on top of very ripe fruit. Great balance and freshness (but not excessive acidity) on the finish. Very neat on the end. Wild and gitanic. Already accessible, but will develop even more complex tertiary aromas. 13.5% alc. Drink 2018-2028”
