La Giaretta, Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico Docg, 2018

Varieties: Corvina plus a very small amount of local grapes.

Vineyard:  Husband and wife team, wonderfully - though confusingly - called Francesco and Francesca, run the estate in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico zone, in Marano, with a total production of 70,000 bottles. Great care is taken in the vines, and the vineyards look a little bit more like gardens. 

Winery: The selection of grapes for the Amarone come from vines planted 30-40 years ago using the region’s old Pergola Veronese system. Aged for two years in small oak barrels.

Tasting:  Ruby red wine with an intense bouquet of cherries and preserved morello cherries in alcohol, with a robust body and a particularly well-balanced flavour.
