Pierre Gaillard grew up amongst vines and at age 12, he was to be found ploughing his family vineyard with a horse. In recent years, Pierre’s son and daughters have been getting more involved, but his passion and influence still remains at the core of this family-run Domaine. Following her father’s winemaking philosophy, Jeanne has a massive respect for the terroir she tends and produces a perfectly balanced wine.
This 100% Syrah, from a 5 ha plot of 30 year old vines, was fermented and aged in old oak barrels. Initial notes of earth and smoke on the nose dissipate with time and aeration, revealing luscious black cherries and preserved plums. As a traditional northern Rhone Syrah it shows white pepper and a savoury -almost meaty- edge that does especially well with game and lamb. Keep in the cellar for 5 years for extra smoked aromas to develop, decant well ahead!
