Muriel Reserva is made from a selection of grapes sourced from vineyards in the Rioja Alta and the Rioja Alavesa regions in northern Spain. Rioja makes a variety of styles of red wines, where the ageing regulations have had a significant impact on the styles of Rioja available on the market and continue to do so. Within this ageing regime, red Reserva wines are subject to a minimum total ageing time of 36 months with 12 months minimum time spent in barrel. However, Muriel Reserva sees 24 months ageing in American & French oak barrels and the wine matures in the bottle for additional two years before it is released to the market. The extended time spent in both the barrels and the bottle results in added complexity.
It is a finely balanced wine showing complex aromas and flavours of plums, dark cherries, vanilla, spices and herbs. It matches well with roast lamb, barbequed meats and smoked cheese.
