Avize Grand Cru, Cote de Blancs
80% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir
Brut Nature (Zero Dosage)
DESCRIPTIONFather and daughter team, Claude and Agnès Corbon, manage this small 6 hectare property in the heart of picturesque Avize in the Côte des Blancs, a 100% Grand Cru appellation. The winery was established in the 1920s when Charles Corbon moved to Avize, worked in a local maison and started to purchase his own vineyards. For 50 years they sold grapes, however in the 1970s the Claude and his family decided to start making their own wine.
Since 2006 Claude and Agnès have been running the family winery together. Their Champagne idea is traditional, yet modern: no filtration or fining, no additives and always an ageing period of at least three years before bottling.
This wine is produced from the oldest vines on the family property. A “cuvée perpétuelle” - this solera system has been going on for 35 + years and every year, half of the oak vat is used and replaced by new wine. It undergoes ageing for 7 years in bottle before release. This is exquisite - hints of exotic preserved fruit, honey and spice; a truly decadent experience. Nuances of hazelnut, chamomile and ginger notes accompanied by a balsamic hint. Interesting and profound while remaining lithe and vivid with a citrus freshness that culminates with all its finesse in a dry, mineral and persistent finish.
