THE BLACKBOOK STORY
Some of the team were recently lucky enough to be able to visit the Blackbook urban winery in the heart of Battersea. We absolutely love supporting local businesses, and it's an even bigger bonus when the wines are absolutely delicious! Winemaker Sergio took us around the distillery and talked to us about the winemaking process. We were even lucky enough to sample wines out of the barrel whilst they are still ageing which was really special.
A little bit about Blackbook winery and why we love them. Blackbook was born of a love of three things: cool climate pinot noir and chardonnay; the English wine industry; and this fair city we call home, London. They are an urban winery located in a railway arch in Battersea. The grapes are sourced from growers in England’s wine regions such as Essex and Oxfordshire where they are producing high quality grapes. Their ethos embraces a single fundamental goal: to make b****y good wine. Blackbook endeavour to bring the hard work of the vineyard owners they work with to the forefront by creating a range of single vineyard wines that showcase the quality and potential for making world-leading still wine in England. They are using two focal varieties, chardonnay and pinot noir, however additional grapes are sourced annually to produce experimental releases such as the Mix up, a skin contact wine with Bacchus and Ortega varietals, a seriously delicious wine we might add.
